Well first of all what’s is gold farming right?
A gold farmer is a player who farms items for the sole purpose of sale to other players via an out-of-game venue, such as eBay or IGE (also called RMT – Real-money trading). Since there is significant real-world demand for in-game gold, gold farming sometimes is taken very seriously.
If your really interested here’s the full definition of Gold Farming.
The games these farmers are playing are caleld MMORPG (Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), one of the most well known MMORPG game is “World Of Warcraft”.
Well US Congress has announced an investigation in to the amount of trading that’s taking place in online gaming:
- Anarchy Online
- City of Heroes
- Dark Age of Camelot
- Dungeons and Dragons
- Eve Online
- Final Fantasy XI
These are just a few of the games were you can trade virtual goods for cash. JEC (Joint Economic Committee) states their interests in the “universe of transactions that occur within online worlds such as second Life”.
They also stated “There is a concern that the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) might step forward with regulations that start taxing transactions that occur within virtual economies,” said Mr Saxton. “This, I believe, would be a mistake.”
So what tax do you put on a “Epic Warrior and Mage Rogue lvl 60â€, fucked if I know but at a current bid of $305.00 I hope it impresses the girl friend and increases my reputation with the guys at work.
