Business Cards with QR Code Arrived :D

So the guys over @ About.me (Social Network Landing Page) linked up with the guys from Moo (online printing company) to offer a pretty cool deal. You can design your own business cards for free; you just have to pay for the shipping which turns out to be a few dollars for fifty. Now the cool part is adding a QR code that actually links to your about.me page e.g About.me/OliverJonCross. I decided design the card the same as my about me page so they know they’ve arrived at the correct the site. I’m glad the QR code actually pointed to the correct address, the last thing I needed was a business card that said “It’s About Me” and pointed to some website about maintaining your own Llama farm. Now you can change the details on the website without having to change your business card. Not that I’m a fan of tattoos but I wonder if anyone has had a QR code done? Ahhh yes, nice but give it a few years there will be something new, the page is no longer hosted or your skin is to wrinkly to scan :

Other than that, a new job and trying hard to push more internet traffic with another site and playing around with  Google CPC and other non fun related stuff.

Few Pictures From Saturday

I will be adding a lot more to www.ClassicCarLink.com later this week but wanted to upload just a few of some of the cars that were using the sun screens on the day. I’ve done a few events for poker where we’ve given away free gear but this is the first time I’ve done it for something personal. It’s come a long way but there is still a long way to go. We have some left over so we will probably take them up to Marbella later this month. Anyway I got stuff to do today so here they are (I haven’t bothered to reisize them, them the close button is in the bottom right after they expand):

More Good and Bad

Well it was around this time last year when I found myself looking for work, hopefully this time I can find something a little sooner. It’s the not working that drives me crazy the most. This time I’ve kept myself a little more occupied, tomorrow there is a classic car event in Gibraltar and a few weeks ago I created my first vector file which has been placed on 150 sun screens, see below (Click for larger view):

So I know it’s been a while but I will be updating my blog and the www.ClassicCarLink.com with all the photos tomorrow.

Testing New FB Send Button Code

I just want to see what it looks like when you a someone presses the new FB send button from a users perspective. I assume it provides a small bit of text and URL which can be sent to a specific group of friends?

K lets find out:

Ok that’s pretty sweet, basically allows you to send articles and promotions to specific friends without spamming your own wall. Also it only appears to the receiver feed but not on the receivers wall, which makes sense.

Surprisingly Quiet Weekend 4 Me But Not 4 CCL

I actually had a quiet weekend and not been out, but come Sunday I see www.ClassicCarLink.com got a small mention on the Guardian website  (http://www.guardian.co.uk/). The Guardian is another well known newspaper in the UK. So now we’ve been mentioned in two different big news groups in the UK. I’ve never been good with marketing so not sure where we are supposed to take it next. Interestingly again the site has been referred to “Cars Reunited” a name we never gave it:

Cars reunited

When Laurie Cross’s dad decided he wanted to track down all the past cars he’d owned in his life, Laurie saw an opportunity to let the internet do the work. Along with his brother, the three of them have now set created classiccarlink.com. It’s a sort of Friends Reunited for much-loved vehicles. If they can bring enough people together, then they’ll be able to build a site through which past and present owners can share stories and photographs. The site has only been running for a month or two and currently has just over 300 members, but already they’ve managed to reunite one fellow with his old cars after 45 years. Sign up and see whatever happened to that Austin Healey you wished you’d never sold.

Got my birthday coming up next next week, well actually not really considering the 29th of February doesn’t come this year but still going to celebrate on the 28th =D

So Loving Disqus

A few months back I saw Disqus appearing on more and more blogs, after a bit of reasearch I found out it was a new commenting plugin for various platforms. In the past I never bothered commenting on a article due to the fact I wasn’t coming back to see if anyone had replied to my opinion. Well the beauty of Disqus is you have a profile which you can login to and you get emailed if anyone responds, like so:

http://www.disqus.com/oliverjoncross/

Then you can have fun like this:

Makes commenting on articles so more interesting and active.

& This is Why I Fking <3 The Internets

So about a week ago I was playing with my new phone a “Samsung Galaxy S” and I wanted to upgrade it to a custom operating version but I hate reading distructions (instructions). So I was pretty much convinced I Bricked my phone, a common reference to describe that your phone is about as much use as a common house brick. It was dead for about 2 days however after posting on a well known forum, one guy decided to go out of his way to help me fix my phone. So I salute you “Goots”, not everyone on the internet is a troll. I’m actually running the custom ROM darky’s with the Gingerbread launcher now and the phone is super fast. I would like to say I like being a geek but this recent episode proves I have a problem with learning the basics.

On another note things still going good, just had a friend over for a week which was really good fun. Little tired just having problems sleeping at the moment.

Dear Mum Letter

I was sent this today and it made me laugh a lot, so thought I’d post it.

A mother passing by her son’s bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made, and everything was picked up. Then, she saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow. It was addressed, ‘Mum’ With the worst premonition, she opened the envelope and read the letter, with trembling hands:

“Dear, Mum.

It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing you. I had toelope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene

with Dad and you. I’ve been finding real passion with Stacy, and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her, because of all her piercings, tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older than I am. But it’s not only the passion, Mum. She’s pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods, and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children. Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn’t really hurt anyone. We’ll be growing it for ourselves, and trading it with the other people in the commune, for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we’ll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS, so Stacy can get better. She sure deserves it!! Don’t worry Mum, I’m 15, and I know how to take care of myself. Someday, I’m sure we’ll be back to visit, so you can get to know your many grandchildren.

Love, your son, Nicholas.

P.S. Mum, none of the above is true. I’m over at Jason’s house.

I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the school report that’s on my desk

I love you!

Call when it is safe for me to come home”.
