No Judge. No Jury. No Appeals. No Deals.
A good friend of ours got mugged for the second time two nights ago. My brother has wrote a letter to the Sur English (English language weekly newspaper, published in Málaga and serving AndalucÃa.) in the hope they would take interest in the growing problem.
“To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to bring it to your attention about the amount of muggings that is occurring in La Linea against foreigners. Earlier this year six people I personally know were mugged, of these six only two actually reported the crime. Those that actually reported the crime all spoke good Spanish but were met with disinterest from the local police. The vast majority of these assaults are taking place on Avenida Veinte de Abril at the front of the red block of buildings opposite the construction site. Now I can only presume that the muggers live within the block because it is now a notorious location to avoid after midnight.
The reason I have decided to contact you is because my friend was mugged for the second time on Sunday evening and I feel something should be done about it. The six people I referred to were all assaulted on the road I mentioned by three or more youths aged sixteen and upwards, in this location alone I could list thirty or more events that I know of from proper muggings to the case of a friend who was on his mobile phone and hit in the face and just for his phone.
The most recent case was on Sunday 27th of August, it took place near Calle San Jose a friend of
mine was walking home after finishing work and a man approached him in his late twenties. The man asked him for one Euro (ironically a police car drove past 10 seconds previously) to which my friend said he didn’t have. Then the man said louder “Give me a Euro” again my friend repeated “No” and started to walk away. At this point the man speeded up so he was alongside. He began to speak again so my friend turned around and confronted by two more people aged 18-22. One of the youths was brandishing an iron bar. So my friend succumbed to the fact that he was indeed being mugged again for the second time this year. They took off him 50 Euros and 20 Pounds. When I asked him if he had reported this to the police he said there was no point as he had done so the last time and they were not interested then, so why should they be now.
I have lived in La Linea for around 6 years and luckily I’ve never been assaulted but I am sure given the current situation it is only a matter of time until it happens. On that note it is probable that at some point in the near future someone is going to be seriously hurt”.
If Charles Bronson was alive he could fix this problem. Check out this Death Wish site I found. Some of you may remember my Bronson Tribute Post as well.
